Bilingualism and Bilingual Education

This course aims at providing participants with the key theoretical tools to analyse critical issues of bilingualism and multilingualism, and in the inter-related field of bilingual education, with special reference to the context of Hong Kong and other Chinese speech communities. It also introduces some key sociolinguistic and sociocultural concepts with which participants can situate language education in its historical, political and social contexts. It will also review the language education issue in a broader, international perspective.
