Virtual Reality for Innovative Learning

2020-11-17

EPL worked with the FEHD Technology-enabled Learning Innovation team to introduce the portable VR technology to schools this month in a bid to boost innovative learning in Hong Kong.

Staff at Salesians of Don Bosco Ng Siu Mui Secondary School were treated to a workshop and two VR toolkits showing how schools could use the technology in their classes. The toolkits allow students to experience a virtual 3D environment, and experience learning in an immersive way that is impossible in a traditional classroom.

An FEHD team was on hand to demonstrate how they use the technology to create an immersive learning environment for students at EdUHK. They also recommended free resources that would be useful to a variety of subjects.

“The project exemplifies our commitment to leading innovation in learning and teaching,” said EPL Head Dr Darren Bryant. “We look forward to future partnership with the school in the implementation of a Teaching Development Grant that will engage the school's innovative teachers with EdUHK students.”

The team consisted of EPL Head of Department Dr Darren Bryant, Leading Innovative Learning Organizations MA Programme Leader Dr Hayes Tang, Instructional Designer Ms Giovanna Tang, and Senior Research Assistant Mr Thomas Yau. Principal Li Kin Man and Vice-principal Chan Wing Yin Celest received the toolkits on behalf of the school.

As this VR project illustrates, EPL is committed to leading innovation in learning and teaching. By supporting teachers in technological learning, we take student learning experiences to the Next Level.
