The online presentation ceremony of the President's Award for Outstanding Performance in Research 2020/21 will be held on 27 May 2021. Dr Junjun Chen won the outstanding award in the area of teacher and principal development and well-being. She is especially interested in psychometric measurement. During the past three years, she has secured two General Research Fund (GRF) grants as a Principal Investigator from the Research Grants Council. Her research has important implications for university and school policy practices through international comparisons by establishing two types of well-being profiles on school principals and PhD students in Hong Kong.
Her research has achieved a high standard of quality and productivity. Over the past three years, she has published 22 journal articles, six book chapters and edited one book. One of her most significant and original research contributions has been her development as the sole author of two research instruments, namely the Teacher Emotion Inventory (TEI) and Principal Emotion Inventory (PEI). These have considerably contributed to maturing the intellectual structure of the relevant fields. With excellent research achievements, Dr Chen’s research has been well-recognised within the academic community. She was awarded the most cited paper of 25 papers from researchers in China, achieving the highest number of citations by Wiley in 2020. She was also appointed ‘Changbaishan Scholar Chair Professor’ in Jilin province, China. This was a competitive position.
Also, both locally and internationally, Dr Chen has committed herself by contributing to professional and social communities through engaging in different knowledge sharing seminars, school case studies, and media coverages related to school well-being and capacity building.
The award was established to honour research excellence exhibited by academic staff as individuals or in teams, and to recognise, encourage and reward outstanding research of significant benefits to the wider community.
