Using a logic model to scaffold a convincing intervention proposal for funding

2021-04-08

The Departmental Research and Higher Degrees Committee (DRHDC) at the Department of Early Childhood Education (ECE) invited Dr. Catherine Capio to conduct a research method workshop about the use of the logic model in preparing an intervention proposal for funding on March 31, 2021. Approximately 70 participants registered for the workshop.

Dr. Capio applied the logic model in her successful intervention proposals to funding bodies such as the Health and Medical Research Fund (HMRF) and the General Research Fund (GRF). She highlighted that the logic model was a graphic chain which depicted how the intervention could tackle the issue and produce desirable outcomes. By providing her own intervention proposal as an example, Dr. Capio further demonstrated the connection between various components (inputs, activities, and outputs which we would implement) in the logic process and the eventual intervention outcomes.

Besides sharing evaluations of project significance, research plan and expected outcomes, Dr. Capio also shared her reflections as an ex-funder to advice the participants on what funding bodies would be concerned about, including the assumptions and the impact on the long-term outcomes in the intervention proposal.
