ECE Professors Dr Eva Lau and Dr Carrey Siu, recently visited Queensland University of Technology, to deepen their collaboration in early childhood research.  The visit is funded as an important part of FEHD’s targeted internationalisation push.

Dr Lau presented her recent findings with QUT’s Dr Kate Williams on parental emotional regulation and childhood aggression. Dr Siu shared her research on how musical activities can be used to foster young children’s socio-emotional and prosocial development.

The two FEHD academics also provided research consultation and engaged in knowledge sharing meetings with QUT academics and students.

The two FEHD academics’ research expertise on parenting, early childhood rhythmic movement, self-regulation, and socio-emotional development match the areas of interest of the QUT early childhood researchers.

“The EdUHK-QUT team has been collaborating on numerous research projects, grant proposals, and publication,” said Dr Lau, “and we plan to take our existing collaborations to the next level; we’ll seek funding for an international project on parenting interventions to support rhythmic movement as a home learning activity. This will help promote young children's social outcomes.”

“The exchange allowed us to establish professional relationships with passionate and experienced researchers who share similar research interests. These will be sustained through continuous collaborations that help build a shared track record,” said Dr Siu.

The exchange highlighted the importance of cross-cultural, institutional, and methodological research collaborations which help to improve early childhood and as such aim to take our partnership and impact to the NEXT LEVEL.
