CURRICULUM FROM THE INSIDE OUT: EMPOWERING TEACHERS FOR HONG KONG'S GLOBAL FUTURE
Module Synopsis
單元概要
Hong Kong’s new talent admission schemes highlight a strong commitment to embracing diverse individuals for the city’s sustained growth. These talents not only enrich Hong Kong’s workforce but also include their children, who form an essential part of the school population. Schools play a crucial role in nurturing young talent, making it increasingly important for Hong Kong teachers to develop cultural and global competence. This course helps students understand curriculum development in different education systems, using The OECD PISA global competency framework to enhance their global perspective as future educators. Singapore was selected as the focus of the course due to its similarities with Hong Kong, such as shared British colonial history, a largely ethnic Chinese population, a multicultural and multilingual environment, and dynamic economic growth. Both were British colonies for approximately 150 years. Additionally, both Singapore and Hong Kong had strong performance in The OECD PISA global competency assessment 2018. Through this course, students will gain firsthand experience and examine the differences in curriculum, teaching methods, and assessment practices between Hong Kong and Singapore via curriculum mapping, literature search, interview and class observations.
