A STUDY TOUR IN FRANCE: UNDERSTANDING FRENCH CULTURAL DIVERSITY THROUGH HISTORY, ART, AND VALUES
Module Synopsis
單元概要
Europe is a multicultural continent, with hundreds of languages, a long history of migrations and exchanges, and a rich cultural and artistic heritage that reflects its diversity and its evolution overtime. France is a culturally diverse country: as a central spot in Western Europe, it has been the scene of thousands of years of migrations, linguistic evolutions, and cultural changes. Far from being static, French society is shaped by these constant changes. It is highly diverse and provides a unique example of multiculturalism in Europe. This course explores European multiculturalism through the lens of French society in the 21st century, and its expressions through art and culture. Students will prepare themselves for the study tour in France, be given the opportunity to understand the historical and social roots of French cultural diversity, and reflect on their modern implications and/or artistic expressions. Furthermore, this will lead to global considerations about how to build a sustainable, peaceful and multicultural world, and address contemporary questions regarding diversity (such as how to understand migrations, how to reduce discrimination, how to shape common values, etc.). Students will explore the following question: How have French values and culture reflected its multicultural history and society?
