WHO ARE THE EDUCATORS IN THE 21ST CENTURY?
Module Synopsis
單元概要
The term, ‘educator’ carries many meanings, rather than just that of ‘teacher’. This course is an interdisciplinary study to explore how the ever-evolving meaning of educators is being perceived in different cultures, as well as how the concept is changing from the past to the future under the influence of inter-cultural exchanges, modernization and the advancement of technology. Participants will have the opportunity to apply relevant theories and concepts from different disciplines (e.g. History, Culture, Sociology, Science and Technology) to construct arguments in analyzing some controversial issues, such as How are the roles and identities of educators viewed under East (Chinese) and West traditions?; Does the term ‘educator’ refer only to those who teach in classrooms?; Will artificial intelligence (AI) replace humans in education in the future?. Through a wide range of course activities including a group debate, participants will be encouraged to regularly reflect on their own learning as well as their own philosophy of education under the influence of the current Learning Paradigm, globalization, and the recent 21st Century Fourth Industrial Revolution.
