Module Code 單元編號 GEG1077 Module Title 單元名稱 DEVELOPING SERVICES FOR THE POOR AND NEEDY 貧窮社群服務 Module Synopsis 單元概要 Poverty is the root of many social problems such as the lack of medical services and schooling opportunities in both developing and developed countries. People need to have a deeper appreciation of what the causes of poverty are and to understand what hinders the effectiveness of services before genuine support will be provided to the needy. This course, through studying the relevant literatures and having first hand service experiences with the poor in Hong Kong, aims to help students develop a deeper understanding of the issues in relation to poverty in the contemporary world and to provide services to those people in need. The service learning process will enable students to gain hands-on experience and knowledge about poverty and enhance their understanding the diverse needs of different poverty groups in Hong Kong.
