單元概要
This capstone course provides a platform for participants to apply the knowledge, skills, and dispositions covered in the four foundational courses. The field experience brings a practical dimension to participants’ knowledge of the theoretical and philosophical issues that underpin curriculum, teaching, assessment, and learning in the international school context. Students are required to engage in direct teaching for ten days, while the entire field component is expected to span several weeks. Three key questions will guide participants’ learning: What is the milieu of the international school, and what are its aspirations? Who are the learners and teachers? How do teachers navigate their approaches to teaching and learning, curricular demands, and learners’ needs? Students will develop familiarity with an international school’s institutional culture and, in particular, the teaching and learning climate of one class. They will become involved in the process of planning curriculum and assessment, and implementing and evaluating lessons to small groups of students using International Baccalaureate (IB) materials, as applicable. Through online activities, journaling, and developing a teaching portfolio, participants will reflect upon their practical experiences. keeping a reflective journal, and developing a teaching portfolio, students will reflect upon their practical experiences. Ultimately, the course challenges students to consider their pedagogical approach in the light of their roles as leaders of learning in an international school.
