ENVIRONMENT, SPACE AND DESIGN FOR INSPIRING EXPERIENCES |
Module Synopsis 單元概要 |
Experiential learning is often talked about in terms of activity design. There is limited reference to the environment that actually impacts experiences in the process. We may think of nature and outdoor settings as examples of environment, easily forgetting that many experiential learning activities take place indoors within a given space, e.g. classrooms or open areas in buildings. In urban cities, space imposes a major constraint on what can be done and imagined. Space is commonly understood as something static, physically contained within demarcated boundaries. This course positions space as relational, social and multifaceted, involving co-construction of processes, affects and meanings. It adopts an inquiry-based approach to investigate the structural provision of space and the use of space or spatial practices that affect learning and experiences. The inquiry process, supported by creative experimentations with collaborative partners, takes participants to reflect and discover new possibilities of spatial practices and spatial design in creating an alternative environment for inspiring experiences. |
