The course is based on the assumption that leadership is both active and important across all levels of schools and that teachers as leaders play a vital role in school change and improvement. Course content is designed to promote deeper understanding of teacher leadership and a set of practical tools designed to help teachers make a real difference in their units, to the school as a whole and particularly to student learning. Topics will include teacher leadership, team building and development, change processes, schools as learning communities, conflict management, effective communication and self and professional growth. Approaches to student learning will include case studies, role play, panel discussions, formal lectures and inquiry-based learning. Assessment will engage students in a school-based inquiry project.
