It will introduce students to key models of reading and examine how theories and principles of reading can be applied to practices inside and outside the classroom. The course will commence with fundamental knowledge such as the nature of reading, links between first and second language reading skills, characteristics of strategic and truggling readers, and the features of intensive and extensive reading. It will then focus on the application of theories and strategies to vocabulary teaching and learning, instructional practices and assessment in reading. Students will engage in innovation and critical analysis of reading practices for effective teaching and learning of English as a second language.
