Special Education Training for Mainland China Teachers

Background

With support from the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, Centre for Special Educational Needs and Inclusive Education has greatly facilitated its strategic development in providing special education training, academic exchange opportunities with educational institutions and rehabilitation organisations for teachers in mainland China through intensive programmes and engagement in special education setting in Hong Kong.

 

Purpose

1.     To equip Chinese special education teachers with the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to implement effective inclusive education and provide the special education officers a platform for communication and exchange.

2.     To promote knowledge exchange in inclusive education nationally and internationally. 

3.     To promote research and knowledge transfer between Hong Kong and Mainland China.

4.     To expend local students’ study areas and provide them with more exchange opportunities.

 

Content

1.     Provide special education certificate course for mainland China.

2.     Hold seminars and lectures in inclusive education/special education.

3.     Provide Hong Kong special education teams and graduates opportunities to visit mainland China for exchange activities.

4.     Provide students who study special education at The Education University of Hong Kong opportunities to observe lessons and practice in mainland China. 

 

Curriculum

The purpose of this course is to help participants understand the policy and developing trend of special education in Hong Kong and equip them with the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to implement effective inclusive education through lectures, visits and experience sharing.

Two curriculum streams:

1.     "Special Education Policy Development and Management Certificate Course": Participants are special education officers, university special education teachers and special education school principals in mainland China.

2.     "Special Education Teacher Certificate Course": Participants are university special education teachers, special education school principals and special education teachers in mainland China.

 

Time span

Six cohorts in total from 2014 to 2017.

 

Sponsorship

1.     Hong Kong local accommodation, local transportation fee and tuition fee are sponsored by Tin Ka Ping Foundation.

2.     Food expenses, transportation fee between mainland and Hong Kong, accommodation outside Hong Kong, visa application fee and other personal expenses are not sponsored in the programme.
