Unsealing Passions: S.E.A.L. Scheme
Unsealing Passions: S.E.A.L. Scheme It has often been said that every person has the same degree of passion and ability. Yet these can only be realised when unsealed by others. To unseal the inner passions and abilities of our students, the Centre for Special Educational Needs and Inclusive Education at HKIEd co-organised an adventure course with the Chief Executive’s Award for Teaching Excellence Teachers Association as part of the S.E.A.L. (Special Education with Adventure-based Learning) Scheme. The S.E.A.L. Scheme is an adventure-based counselling project specifically designed for special education. It not only helps students with special needs to improve their learning motivation, but also helps them to cultivate appropriate behaviour and values. Members of the project received the Chief Executive’s Award for Teaching Excellence in 2010-2011 and have been invited to discuss their experience in various countries. In the three-day S.E.A.L. course held from 3 to 5 July this year on the HKIEd campus, the programme focused on basic concepts of adventure counselling in special education, skills for organising activities, curriculum designs and teaching strategies, and safety measures. Over 100 in-service teachers, HKIEd students and practitioners participated in this very important event.
