Project Introduction

The Hong Kong Curriculum Development Council has proposed three pillars as the framework of curriculum reform, namely knowledge and concepts, competencies and skills, and values and attitudes, which are also the essential components of Liberal Studies in the New Secondary School Curriculum. This project aims to address in particular the nurturing of values and attitudes by bringing Liberal Studies and values education together. This is achieved by taking Global Ethic as the theme for developing teaching and learning materials, and designing activities for the Globalization module in Liberal Studies. As a worldwide project concerning universal ethical principles and values, Global Ethic is conceived as an approach towards diverse aspects of globalization, especially the implicit and crucial ethical elements. The integration of Liberal Studies and Values Education through the theme of Global Ethic will help students as well as teachers to develop their own values and viewpoints towards various problems and issues of globalization.

Outcome

  • Developed Teaching and Learning Materials by integrating the idea of “Global Ethics” to the “Globalization module” of Liberal Studies subject;
  • Provided professional workshops and overseas study opportunities to teachers to enhance their expertise and teaching skills;
  • Provided experiential learning activities to students for improving learning effectiveness;
  • Established a network of school cooperation in the “Globalization Module” of Liberal Studies.
