Course Introduction

This course makes use of narrative knowing to help students understand and reflect on the importance of their personal life values and goals. The course consists of theoretical and experiential learning. In the first part, students will learn the philosophical, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual underpinnings of core values and aspects of well-being in life through a variety of in-class and on-line activities applying story-telling techniques. In the second part of the course, students will be expected to demonstrate their awareness, aspirations, and appreciation of life values and experiences in both individual reflections and group production of a micro-film..

Expected Learning Outcomes

  • Develop an understanding of the philosophical, psychological, socio-cultural and spiritual underpinnings of life values and life education;
  • Demonstrate an awareness of narrative knowing in the generation of personal life stories (narratives, biography and autobiography);
  • Apply the techniques gained from micro-film production and insights gained from self-evaluation in making meaning of and for life
