Effective
infusion of Chinese culture into the science-related curriculum: An
outline and some exemplars
Abstract:
This
presentation will outline some ancient Chinese inventions and discoveries
in science and technology which are of significant importance for
integrating with some relevant science topics or curricula in the primary
General Studies, junior secondary Science and senior secondary Physics,
Science & Technology and Integrated Science (new syllabus). Specific
illustrations and hands-on activities which focus on how to apply
appropriate subject matter, pedagogical content knowledge and teaching
methods to effectively infuse Chinese culture into the science-related
curriculum will be demonstrated. Besides, relevant references from the
ancient Chinese literature and teaching resources on various philosophical
ideas and daily-life understandings of the nature will be linked with the
corresponding science
concepts
which are presently adopted in our modern civilization and school
curricula.
