Abstract

Much literature characterises students of Asian heritage as serial plagiarisers because of the way they have been taught to use seminal texts. However, research by two academics at the University of Western Sydney shows that plagiarism is more related to social and economic conditions. In attempting to assist students, the researchers developed a set of free modules available on the university's website. An investigation of student use of these modules demonstrated that many students struggle with academic writing and referencing.
