Abstract

Universities have a critical contribution to make to the creation of a sustainable society, through their role preparing professionals, political and cultural leaders, business entrepreneurs, activists and advocates of civil society for their work in leading, managing, teaching and influencing society’s institutions, values and behaviour. New knowledge and skills are needed to develop a new breed of leaders, thinkers, professionals, entrepreneurs, etc. Universities influence the way children appreciate nature and society, and how they behave, as they train the teachers who teach the children.

The Framework provides the context for those in universities to develop and use STEM education as a fundamental basis for sustainable development. It explains:
Context – Make sustainable development the framework for STEM education.
Content – Develop high quality STEM education content that reflects interdisciplinary systems thinking.
Process – Encourage institutions to deliver content through a mutual learning-oriented engagement.
