The theme for this year’s contest was “aspirations”.  To make the contest more interesting, the following picture related to the theme was provided as a further inspiration for participants.

Giacomond (1984) by Quint Buchholz. Picture sourced under Fair Use purposes.

The contest welcomed and encouraged all EdUHK students to participate and compete in a contest where they would not only use language creatively, but also work to polish their writing skills to create unique well-written pieces of their own. Indeed, it has been a wonderful experience reading and sharing all the wonderful submissions.

Choosing the winners was a daunting task and it took two steps to accomplish. The first step was to ask EdUHK students to vote for their favourite pieces of writing via the Instagram page of ASLLC or the given Google form. The voting results accounted for 30% of the total scores. To encourage more students to vote, a lucky draw was held for voters. A total of 151 students participated in the voting both on the ASLLC Instagram page (68 students) and via the Google form (83 students).

The second step was to obtain the results from the judging panel, which took into consideration the following criteria in the judging process:

  • Relevance
  • Language
  • Content
  • Creativity

All the winning entries have been published in our IT magazine and on the CLE webpage.

I would like to warmly thank all students and staff who were involved in this contest!

Thank you and happy writing!
