Putonghua for Non-Chinese Speakers

  1. Course Synopsis

This is a course intended for beginner of Putonghua. It aims to provide students with a good foundation in Putonghua and the culture of the Putonghua speaking world, with the main focus in developing students’ oral communication skills. It also aims to familiarize students with basic Chinese characters, words and sentences. After the completion of this course, students will be able to interact with others to perform basic function in simple Putonghua. 


 

  1. Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILOs)

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 

 

CILO1

demonstrate a core understanding of Putonghua phonology and apply this in the pronunciation of the language

CILO2

recognize basic characters ,words and sentences in daily communication

CILO3

understand and speak in basic Putonghua in everyday situations

CILO4 

have a general awareness of Chinese culture and communicative strategies

CILO5

develop Putonghua proficiency with self-access learning materials
