As part of the nation’s efforts to fight corruption, Indonesia has opted to spread anti-corruption messages through education. Therefore, along with other preventive and investigative responsibilities, the country’s Law on Corruption Eradication Commission also mandates the commission with the duty of “running anti-corruption education programmes in every level of education”. This indicates that the anti-coruption education (ACE) is meant to be carried out in the mainstream formal education. However, the commission is lacking resources to conduct the massive task alone. This has made their work considerably slow. To accelerate, several other government agencies were then also assigned to the task, and a few universities and schools voluntarily started their own self-initiated ACE, creating concurrent phenomena of top-down and bottom-up ACE initiatives. This seminar will explore policies, strategies, and practices of ACE in both initiatives. Comparisons will be made between the two and with Hong Kong’s ACE, problems and lessons learned will be highlighted. The implications of the findings of the study to the future of ACE in Indonesia will be discussed.
