A Staff Professional Workshop on “Improving Students’ Learning Performance through Self-Regulated Learning Strategies” conducted by Miss Jannie Tsang, Project consultant of Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT), was held on 7 October, 2022 for approximately 40 teachers of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Chow Yin Sum Primary School.
The two-hour workshop covered a brief introduction of the rationale and theories of self-regulated learning, various strategies required at the different stages of SRL development process (including note-taking skills, graphic organisers, & self-assessment), metacognitive learning strategies, as well as some practical ideas for developing students’ creativity. Authentic cases illustrating how the SRL components and the relevant learning strategies could be integrated in the lesson design had been discussed. The teacher participants had engaged in trying out the interactive activities suggested and the experience had given them confidence and insight in designing scaffolding activities to help students improve their learning performance.
