It aims to enhance STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education in primary and secondary schools as well as in tertiary teacher institutions through the concept of education for sustainability. It will promote integrated studies across various disciplines in mathematics, science (including physics, chemistry, biology and environmental science etc) and information technology.  Before the establishment of this theme, the relevant Centre members have already undertaken a number of STEM-related projects like (1) Relevance of Science Education survey in Hong Kong and Shanghai, (2) evaluation of e-learning materials in Hong Kong senior secondary science and mathematics subjects, (3) production of a new physics education programme for Ocean Park and evaluation  and (4) innovative use of mobile technology for effective teaching and learning of science and environmental studies. Currently, we are working on two knowledge transfer projects to develop online science programs for gifted students as tendered by the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education.
