Entry Requirements
Academic Major/Minor Subjects Entry Enquirements
For admission to the Four-year Full-time Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Secondary) Programme, applicants must satisfy the entry requirements of the programme and the academic major/minor subjects selected. Applicants should note that the grades indicated in the entry requirements represent only the minimum acceptable standard in relation to the HKCEE and HKALE subjects for entry to the programme and the academic major/minor subjects. Higher grades are normally required for successful admission.
To be eligible for admission, applicants should have normally completed Secondary 7 with the following qualifications:
(i) have obtained Grade E or above in at least SIX subjects including Chinese Language, English Language (Syllabus B)* and Mathematics at HKCEE level in ONE sitting;
(ii) have obtained Grade E or above in Use of English and Chinese Language and Culture at AS-Level in the HKALE; and
(iii) have obtained Grade E or above in at least two subjects at A-Level OR one subject at A-Level and two subjects at AS-Level (other than Use of English and Chinese Language and Culture) in the HKALE.
* Grade C in English Language (Syllabus A) is regarded as equivalent to Grade E in English Language (Syllabus B) for the purpose of this requirement.
Academic Major/Minor Subjects Entry Requirements
Subject Major/Minor Entry Requirements Art Major
- Grade E or above in Art (A-Level or AS-Level) in HKALE AND satisfactory performance in portfolio interview; OR
- Grade D or above in any one of the following subjects in HKCEE: Art; Ceramics; AND satisfactory performance in portfolio interview; OR
- Satisfactory performance in practical test AND portfolio interview.
Business Studies Major
- Grade E or above in any one of the following subjects in HKALE: Buinsess Studies; Economics; Prinicples of Accounts; OR
- Grade D or above in any one of the following subjects in HKCEE: Word Processing and Business Commuication; Commerce; Economics; Economic and Public Affairs; Mathematics; Principles of Accounts.
Design & Technology Major
- Grade E or above in any one of the following subjects in the HKALE (AS-Level): Design & Technology; Electronics; OR
- Grade D or above in any one of the following subjects in the HKCEE#: Art; Design & Technology; Electronics & Electricity; Engineering Science; Mathematics; Metalwork; Physics; Technical Drawing; AND satisfactory performance in elective interview.
Home Economics Major
- Grade D or above in any one of the following subjects in the HKCEE: Home Economics (Dress and Design); Home Economics (Food Home and Family); Domestics Subject; Accommodation and Catering Services; Fashion and Clothing; OR
- Grade E or above in Biology / Chemistry in the HKALE (A-Level or AS-Level); OR
- Satisfactory performance in an admission test and interview.
Music Major
- Grade E or above in Music (A-Level or AS-Level) in HKALE AND satisfactory performance in elective interview; OR
- Satisfactory performance in practical test AND elective interview.
Physical Education Major
- Grade D or above in Physical Education in HKCEE* AND satisfactory performance in elective interview; OR
- Satisfactory performance in practical test AND elective interview.
Chinese Minor
- Grade D or above in Chinese Language and Culture (AS-Level) in HKALE. @
Information Technology Minor
- Grade E or above in any one of the following subjects in the HKALE: Computer Studies (A-Level); Computer Applications (AS-Level); OR
- Grade E or above in Computer Studies in the HKCEE; OR
- Grade D or above in a Mathematics or Science subject in the HKCEE; OR
- Equivalent demonstrable IT qualifications.
Mathematics Minor
- Grade E or above in a Mathematics subject (A-Level or AS-Level) in the HKALE.
Science Minor
- Grade E or above in any one of the following subjects in the HKALE (A-Level or AS-Level) AND Grade E or above in the remaining two subjects in the HKCEE: Biology/Human Biology; Chemistry; Physics/Engineering Science; OR
- Grade E or above in any two of the following subjects in the HKALE (A-Level or AS-Level) AND Grade E or above in the remaining one subject in the HKCEE: Biology/Human Biology; Chemistry; Physics/Engineering Science.
Social Science (Civic Education) Minor
Grade E or above in any one of the following subjects in the HKALE (A-Level or AS-Level):
Chinese History; Economics; Geography; GPA; History; Liberal Studies; OR
Grade D or above in any one of the following subjects in the HKCEE:
Chinese History; Economics; EPA; Geography; GPA; History; Social Studies; Travel & Tourism.
* Under special circumstances, Grade E in the stipulated subject in the specific public examination will also be considered.
@ Under special circumstances, applicants with Grade E in Chinese Language and Culture (AS-Level) in the HKALE and Chinese Literature (A-Level) in the HKALE will also be considered.
# Applicants with General Certificate of Education Examination results in either Graphical Communications or Technological Studies may also be considered.
Applicants may wish to provide additional information which is relevant to the Major/Minor subjects of their choice:
relevant qualifications in addition to the entry requirements (e.g. awards from the Assoicated Board of the Royal School of Music)
achievements in inter-school and/or territory-wide competitions in sports (e.g. awards from/selection to/participation in Olympic/Asia/other international, regional or national games)
extra-curricular achievements (e.g. awards from the Hong Kong Schools Music and Speech Festival; awards from Public Art Competitions)
achievements in events or activities showing leadership (e.g. the Hong Kong Award for Young People) and/or creativity (e.g. creative writing/arts/music/other well-defined projects)
participation in community service for a continuous period of time
The Institute will consider all relevant additional information in assessing the application for admission. At a later stage, applicants may be required to provide documentation to support the achievements cited.
All applicants are required to attend the following entrance tests and/or interviews to demonstrate their suitability for the programme and the major/minor subjects:
(i) general suitability interview; and
(ii) practical tests/interviews for applicants choosing Art, Design & Technology, Home Economics, Music or Physical Education as their major subjects.
