Global networking brings collaboration
In October, Professor Cheng Yin-cheong, CRIC Centre Director travelled to Korea at the invitation of the Seoul National University.
"We visited the university's Institute of Asia Pacific Education Development (iAPED) and attended the Second iAPED
International Conference on Education Research for which HKIEd acted as conference co-sponsor. During the visit, we met
with Professor Dong Seop Jin, Director-General of iAPED, and his colleagues. We discussed the possibilities which collaboration
could offer in terms of academic exchanges involving both staff and students, research and publication. We also discussed future
mutual support between the Institute and iAPED in organising conferences."
Professor Cheng sees this kind of activity as vital for fulfilling the mission of CRIC and of the Institute
to build up a regional and international network. "Our discussions were extremely fruitful," he says,
"and resulted in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on collaboration. Through such
visits we are building up a global network of international collaboration which aims to pool up the
best international resources and intellectual assets for developing outstanding teachers."
