Sit Hoi-fai

Artistic inspiration - the French way

Sit Hoi-fai visited France for 14 days during the 2002 summer holidays, but it was no vacation. He toured art galleries and visited primary and secondary schools, attended lectures and a music festival, and worked on a project. It was all part of an arts immersion programme organised by the Institute for students specialising in the arts. Hoi-fai was at the end of his second year in a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) programme. "We saw many, many masterpieces in France. They were so different from what you see in books and it had a big impact on me and my classmates. I think this experience will help me to share with my students the wonder of being able to observe a genuine masterpiece in the original," he said. Hoi-fai said arts education was very advanced in France and he learned a lot about how to teach arts, and about art itself. "The immersion experience will certainly improve my effectiveness as a teacher and enhance my understanding of artistic concepts. It will provide inspiration for me to create ways of arousing my own students' interest in and love of art," he added.
