Treasurer’s Report 司庫報告 香港教育大學 2023-2024 年報 79 Financial Position The University’s total net assets increased from HK$1.73 billion to HK$2.04 billion at the end of 2023/24, as a result of the surplus represented in the Statement of Comprehensive Income. Amid the highinterest rate environment, the University has allocated a large portion of its funds to bank deposits to generate interest income. Therefore, the bank deposits with original maturity of over three months increased by HK$264 million to HK$1.31 billion, and cash and cash equivalents also increased by HK$50 million to HK$918 million as at year end. Looking ahead, the University is exploring opportunities to reallocate a portion of its short-term bank deposits into multi-year fixed income investments. By such transitioning, the University can potentially lock in higher yields and enhance the overall investment return. The total balance of the General and Development Reserve Fund (“GDRF”) increased to HK$756 million at the end of the financial year. Outlook The 2023/24 financial year brought the University a number of challenges, but the University has demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience in addressing these obstacles. The University's financial position remained healthy, with total accumulated funds reaching HK$2.04 billion by the end of the year. Operating within a volatile global economy, the University recognises the potential impacts on funding, enrolment, and other critical areas. To navigate these uncertainties, the University will closely monitor macroeconomic trends and maintain financial flexibility to adapt as needed. Additionally, the competition for top academic and administrative talent remains fierce. The University will continue to strengthen its talent management efforts to attract and retain the best people. With the University's solid financial foundation and culture of resilience, it has provided a strong buffer against potential challenges. The University will leverage this financial strength to continue investing in strategic priorities, such as strengthening partnerships and collaborations with local and international universities and institutions, boosting the University’s branding and integration with the Greater Bay Area as well as regional and international networks, and enhancing cutting-edge educational innovation and national education. To mark its 30th anniversary, the University has organised a diverse array of events and activities to celebrate its achievements and honour the invaluable contributions of all the collaborators who have accompanied the University on its journey over the last three decades. By staying true to its mission of academic excellence and innovation, the University is confident in its ability to adapt and thrive in the years to come.
