Treasurer’s Report 司庫報告 The Education University of Hong Kong Annual Report 2023-2024 76 Report of the Treasurer to the Council on the Group’s Financial Statements for the Year ended 30 June 2024 Overview This year marks the 30th anniversary of the University, a significant milestone in its history. Over the past years, the University has made a concerted effort to uphold its core mission to enhance its research and teaching capabilities on multiple fronts. The University has signed various strategic memoranda of understanding with prestigious institutions to facilitate robust academic exchanges and collaboration. Furthermore, the University has allocated resources in bolstering its capabilities in research infrastructure . Two new university-level research facilities have been established: the University Research Facility of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and the University Research Facility of Human Behavioural Neuroscience. These state-of-the-art technological platforms, led by distinguished Chair Professors and scholars in various fields, cultivate and strengthen a cross-disciplinary environment that enhance the quality and throughput of research. Additionally, the University has opened its North Point Study Centre and Hong Kong Science Park office during this financial year, and the construction of a new academic building is currently underway, expected to be completed by 2025/26. These initiatives have enhanced the University's teaching and learning environment, ultimately benefitting the University’s community in its entirety. In 2023/24, at the University level, an overall net surplus of HK$309 million was recorded, generated from both University Grants Committee (“UGC”)-funded activities and non-UGC-funded activities. At the University and its subsidiaries (together, the “Group") level, the net surplus reduced slightly to HK$307 million, due to a deficit of around HK$2 million incurred by The EdUHK Schools Limited (“Schools Limited”) and a small surplus from The EdUHK School of Continuing and Professional Education Limited (“SCPE”). Operating Results and Financial Position The Group adopted the Hong Kong Financial Reporting Standards (“HKFRS”) issued by the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Statement of Recommended Practice (“SORP”) for the UGC-funded Institutions in Hong Kong. Note 1 of the Consolidated Financial Statements shows the details of the material accounting policies adopted by the Group. Income The total income for the Group amounted to HK$2.51 billion, which was HK$271 million higher than that of the previous year. At the University level, total income for the year increased to HK$2.44 billion, HK$269 million or around 12.4% higher compared to 2022/23. There was an increase of HK$125 million in Government subventions. Income from tuition, programmes and other University fees increased by HK$83 million, mainly from the rise of student enrolments in non-UGCfunded programmes. Donations and benefactions slightly decreased by about HK$17 million to HK$148 million. Interest and net investment income generated a gain of HK$148 million, representing an increase of HK$63 million compared to last year. The strong performance of our investment portfolios continued in 2023/24, and interest income from time deposits also increased which were primarily driven by the US Federal Reserve maintaining its tight monetary policy to keep interest rates elevated throughout the financial year. 香港教育大學司庫致校董會於二零二四年六月三十日止 的年度報告 概覽 本校是年昂然迎來三十周年誌慶，標示著一個重要的歷 史里程碑。回首過去，本校一直上下一心，彼此協力堅 守使命，銳意提升各個領域的研究與教學實力。年內， 本校跟多家甚具名望的院校簽訂合作備忘錄，促進學術 交流與協作。此外，本校為加固研究基礎的建設能力而 投放資源，新增了兩所校級研究所，分別為「數據科學 與人工智能中心實驗室」及「神經科學中心實驗室」，配 備先進的科研平台，由來自多元領域的傑出講座教授及 學者主理，致力營造及強化跨學科的聯繫，從而提升研 究的質素及成果。另一方面，本校的北角教學中心及位 於香港科學園的辦事處於本財政年度啟用，而正在興建 的新教學大樓預期於二零二五至二六年度竣工。這些計 劃旨在提升本校的教學環境，讓全體師生受益。 二零二三至二四年度，本校錄得淨盈餘三億零九百萬 元，主要來自大學教育資助委員會（「教資會」）的資助項 目及非教資會資助項目的收入。在本校及附屬機構層面 （合稱為「本集團」），所錄得的淨盈餘輕微減少至三億 零七百萬元。此盈餘的微降是由於香港教育大學附屬學 校有限公司（「學校有限公司」）出現的二百萬元赤字，以 及香港教育大學附屬持續專業教育學院（「持續專業教育 學院」）錄得的少許盈餘所致。 營運業績及財務狀況 本集團採納香港會計師公會頒布的香港財務報告準則 （「財務準則」），以及教資會資助大學的建議準則（「建議 準則」）。本校綜合財務報表附註一羅列了本集團採用的 主要會計政策細則。 收入 本集團的總收入為二十五億一千萬元，較去年度多出 二億七千一百萬元。 本校年內的整體收入為二十四億四千萬元，較二零二二 至二三年度多出二億六千九百萬元，增幅為百分之十二 點四。政府撥款增加了一億二千五百萬元；學費、課程 及其他本校收費增長八千三百萬元，增幅主要源自報讀 非教資會資助課程的學生人數有所增加；捐款及捐助微 減約一千七百萬元，達至一億四千八百萬元；在利息及 投資淨收益方面，獲利一億四千八百萬元，較去年度增 加六千三百萬元。投資組合績效出色的勢頭於二零二三 至二四年度持續，銀行定期存款的利息收入亦告增加， 主要由於美國聯邦儲備局於本財政年度內，一直維持其 緊縮的貨幣政策而保持利率高企所致。 Treasurer’s Report 司庫報告
