The Education University of Hong Kong Annual Report 2022-2023 8 President (Designate)’s Message 候任校長的話 President (Designate)’s Message 候任校長的話 It is with great honour and humility that I take on the role as the sixth President of EdUHK, a position which comes with enormous responsibility and commitment. I am truly indebted to the Council for placing its confidence in me. In particular, my heartfelt thanks go to Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung and Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung, the two Presidents with whom I have worked during the significant transformation of the former Institute and the birth of EdUHK. Seven years after retitling, EdUHK has come a long way on various fronts, including learning and teaching, research, and knowledge transfer, thanks in large part to the concerted efforts of the University community. While remaining committed to nurturing educators and professionals, we are expanding the scope of our programme offerings, research and knowledge transfer activities. This means that we are well positioned to make an even greater contribution to the school sector, the wider community and the nation. Embracing technology Globally, technology has brought about unprecedented changes to our daily lives, and learning and teaching are no exception. Embracing change is probably our only option. For educators, our major concern is how to ensure the effective, ethical and equitable use of new technologies. This has led to the recent launch of the University’s 6-P pedagogical approach, which facilitates the assessment of self-regulated learning with the premise of upholding academic integrity. Our academics are instrumental in ensuring that our students understand the nature, application and limitations of the new technologies, especially artificial intelligence. Another key development is Hong Kong’s integration into the Greater Bay Area (GBA), which is an important national strategy. As a publicly funded university, it is important for EdUHK to establish a foothold in the GBA and to carry out teacher and vocational education, as well as joint research and training activities in the region. This will be a win-win situation for the University, its GBA partners, and other stakeholders to synergise efforts in enhancing human talent with virtue and the quality of education. 承蒙校董會信賴,本人十分榮幸能夠接任教大第六 任校長,並深深明白到我的角色任重道遠。在此, 我要特別感謝曾與我共事的前校長張炳良教授和張 仁良教授。我們在大學正名的路上並肩同行,一起 見證教大的誕生。 教大正名至今,已逾七年。全賴教大上下同心同德,我 們在學與教、研究及知識轉移等不同方面,均取得長足 發展。在秉持培育教育及專業人士這核心使命外,我們 同時不斷擴闊學術課程、拓展研究和知識轉移活動,致 力為學界、社會和國家作出更大貢獻。 擁抱科技 放眼全球,科技正為我們的日常生活帶來前所未有的改 變,學與教方面也不例外,必須要作出相應的改變。對 教育工作者而言,我們主要關注的是,如何確保有效、 合理和公平地使用這些創新科技。在此原則下,教大於 近月推出6-P教學取向,以促進自主學習,同時維護學 術誠信。本校學者在引導及確保學生理解創新科技的本 質、應用和局限性,尤其是人工智能方面,正發揮重要 作用。 香港另一關鍵發展方向就是融入粵港澳大灣區(下稱「大 灣區」),亦即國家「十四五」規劃及第二十次全國代表 大會提及的發展戰略。教大作為一所公帑資助大學, 需要立足大灣區,推動區內的教師教育、職業教育,以 及聯合研究和培訓活動。我相信,在教大、大灣區合作 夥伴和其他持份者的共同努力下,我們可以發揮協同效 應,提高人才素養和教育品質,達致共贏。
