The Education University of Hong Kong Annual Report 2022-2023 6 President’s Overview 校長的話 President’s Overview 校長的話 It gives me great pleasure to present my final Overview for the University’s Annual Report 2022-23, before my decade-long tenure comes to an end. It has been my honour to serve as EdUHK President. I have had the privilege of working with an extraordinary team, comprising passionate scholars and dedicated professionals. We have shared the same mission and goals, and we have worked closely together to achieve them. I would like to place on record my profound gratitude to the entire University community, stakeholders and donors for their unfailing support over the years, without which many of the University’s impressive developments and achievements would not have been possible. Forerunner in education The year under review was equally impressive. Our overall research capacity continued to shine, with record-high funding secured in the Research Grants Council’s highly competitive General Research Fund exercise. As a forerunner in education, we once again ranked first in terms of the number of funded projects and the awarded amount in the subject. The University also fared well in other areas of research, such as humanities and social sciences, particularly in the subject discipline of psychology and linguistics. This is testimony to our robust research culture across the board. I must also congratulate our academics on their achievements in driving innovation for the benefit of the community. In a first for EdUHK, we won a Gold Medal with Congratulations of the Jury in the latest international invention exhibition in Geneva. This prestigious honour was awarded to less than 16% of the year’s entrants. During the reporting year, EdUHK garnered a total of 38 international innovation awards – an 81% yearon-year increase. Our global reputation was further enhanced with 34 of our scholars named among the world’s top 2% scientists by Stanford University. EdUHK also ranked fourth in Asia and 21st in the world in education, according to Quacquarelli Symonds. 本人十年校長任期即將屆滿,這是我最後一次為大 學年度報告撰文。 我很榮幸擔任教大校長,與充滿熱誠的團隊共事。我們 抱持相同的願景和目標,緊密合作,為實現教育理想一 同努力。在此,我要向教大全體同仁、各位持份者和捐 贈者表達深深的謝意。承蒙大家多年來的鼎力支持,教 大方能屢創佳績,卓然有成。 教育先導者 過去一年,我們取得令人振奮的成果。本校的整體研究 實力表現卓越,在研究資助局(研資局)競爭激烈的「優 配研究金」中更獲得破紀錄的撥款。作為教育先導者, 我們在教育學科的資助項目,無論在數量和撥款總額, 均繼續獨佔鰲頭。而在其他研究範疇,例如人文和社會 科學方面,教大亦有良好表現,尤其是心理學和語言學 等學科領域,足證我們擁有雄厚的研究實力。 在此,我要特別恭賀本校一眾學者,在推動創新、貢獻 社會方面,取得傑出的成就。教大在最近一次日內瓦 國際發明展中,首度榮獲評判特別嘉許金獎,此榮譽 每年僅授予少於16%的參賽者。此外,教大年內已先 後奪得三十八個國際創新發明獎項,按年增長81%。與 此同時,我們在全球聲譽日隆,有三十四名學者榮登 史丹福大學全球首2%科學家名單。而根據Quacquarelli Symonds世界大學學科排名,教大在教育領域名列亞洲 第四與全球第二十一位。
