The Education University of Hong Kong Annual Report 2022-2023 4 Chairman’s Foreword 校董會主席前言 Chairman’s Foreword 校董會主席前言 This is my third review as Chairman of the Council. I wish to extend my deep gratitude to the management team and the University community for their contribution and dedication, which resulted in yet another remarkable year. Together, we made great strides and achieved breakthroughs on different fronts, in line with the direction set out in the University’s Strategic Plan 2016-2025. Celebrating education heritage As we approach our 30th anniversary next year, it is an opportune time to remember, reflect on and rejoice in our century-old education heritage. The seeds were sown as early as 1881, when the first government normal school was established. This eventually branched out into five colleges of education, which were amalgamated in 1994 to form our predecessor – the then Hong Kong Institute of Education. We have indeed inherited a rich education legacy, thanks to the solid foundations laid by generations of passionate educators and scholars. This historical context defines what we are today, and we must take this forward to fulfil our core mission in teacher education and related disciplines. This is what differentiates us from other publicly funded universities in Hong Kong. Embracing change At EdUHK, we take pride in nurturing future educators and professionals as responsible and caring change agents. Their role in society is indispensable and irreplaceable. That is why the University must take the initiative in preparing them for future changes and challenges to come. Part of this involves making continuous curricular enhancements so that they can develop a broader perspective, embrace positive values, and become future-ready. I am pleased to note the latest initiatives in this regard, particularly the introduction of the credit-bearing courses on the Greater Bay Area (GBA) for all undergraduate students. Having an opportunity to gain teaching experience in GBA schools is invaluable for prospective teachers. This, together with the diverse learning opportunities made available in our country and the rest of the globe, will enable our students to navigate our fast-changing world. 這是本人第三份校董會主席前言。在此,我謹向 大學管理團隊和本校所有成員致意,感謝各位的 投入和付出,讓我們能朝着《策略發展計劃20162025》制定的方向,邁步向前,在不同方面均取 得突破,成就又一個卓越而豐盛的學年。 慶祝教育傳承 明年是香港教育大學(教大)三十周年校慶,正好藉此良 機回顧、反思,並慶祝我們長達逾百年的教育傳承。香 港教師教育的根源,最早可追溯至一八八一年第一所官 立師範學堂的誕生,後來開枝散葉、擴展成為五所前師 範及教育學院,並於一九九四年合併為本校的前身、亦 即香港教育學院。全賴一代又一代充滿熱誠的教育同工 和學者為我們奠定堅實基礎,教大才得以繼承這份無比 豐厚的教育遺產。這個源遠流長的歷史背景,同樣塑造 了我們今天的面貌,我們必須傳承這份瑰寶,並予以發 揚光大,履行教師教育與相關學科的核心使命。而這亦 是教大能獨樹一幟,與其他本地公帑資助大學的區別所 在。 擁抱改變 教大一直以培養負責任和關懷他人的變革者為己任。他 們未來將會成為教育工作者或其他專業人士,擔承社 會上無可取代的角色。有鑑於此,我們必須及早裝備 他們,以迎接未來種種的變化和挑戰。我們其中一項重 要的工作就是不斷豐富現有課程,以期協助他們拓闊視 野,抱持正向價值觀,為未來作好準備。我十分高興看 到有關這方面的各種新猷,尤其為所有本科生引入大灣 區必修課程,為準教師提供難能可貴的大灣區學校實 習機會。凡此種種,連同前往內地及海外的多元學習機 會,將有利我們的學生應對瞬息萬變的世界。
