The Education University of Hong Kong Annual Report 2022-2023 24 Community Partnership Making education inclusive and fun Learning Chinese can be challenging for non-Chinese-speaking (NCS) people, but it is essential for their social integration and future employment. EdUHK has been a partner university of the C-ForChinese@JC project since 2016, and our team has been offering a oneyear, full-time diploma programme in early childhood education for NCS students. To date, 133 students have graduated from the programme, some of whom have become part of a new generation of teaching assistants with the necessary knowledge, pedagogical skills and cultural awareness in kindergartens and preschools. Others have continued their studies in early childhood education. In the project’s second phase, the EdUHK team seeks to develop and evaluate a curriculum that promotes the Chinese language skills and socioemotional competence of Chinese-speaking and NCS children in Hong Kong. During the year, the team provided on-site support services to 16 kindergartens, benefitting over 1,550 Chinese-speaking children and 368 NCS children and their parents and teachers.
