The Education University of Hong Kong Annual Report 2021-2022 28 Support for students and parents The prolonged pandemic resulted in disruptions to the growth and learning of all schoolchildren, especially kindergarten pupils preparing for the transition to primary one. Thanks to a donation from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the University’s Department of Early Childhood Education launched the two-year EdUHK Jockey Club School Transition and Readiness Project during the year, which will ultimately benefit 100,000 primary one families and nearly 200 teachers. The project includes the free distribution of resource kits, the provision of training and consultation services to primary schools, and the promotion of home-school collaboration. Many parents have also faced stress and strain in managing their children’s schooling, emotions and behaviour because of the pandemic. This prompted our academics to design a ‘Parent Education Level Up’ mobile app with evidence-based content. The app covers 10 major parent-child themes in the form of short articles, animated videos, picture books, quizzes and storytelling to enhance parental skills step-by-step. It is available for free download by members of the public. EdUHK Jockey Club STARt-up resource kits designed to provide comprehensive support for students and parents in the transition from kindergarten to primary school 「教大賽馬會升級資源套」支援學生及家長適應小學生活 Positivity matters Equally important is the cultivation of mental health among students of all ages and backgrounds.
