Dr. Alex Chan Lih-shing
Dr. Chan Lih-shing is a Lecturer with the Department of Asian and Policy Studies (APS) of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (FLASS) at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK). As a recipient of postgraduate research scholarship awarded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan, he studied at the Graduate School of Social Studies, Doshisha University, Kyoto and obtained his PhD in media studies.
Dr. Chan's research interests are multi-disciplinary. Through the study of the minority media as an ethnic organization, his doctoral dissertation was a theoretical exploration of ethnicity and media, integrating the anthropological accounts of Benedict Anderson, T.H. Eriksen and Frederic Barth with the critical political economy studies of media, to provide a holistic understanding of ethnicized communications and its implication on social policies.
