Dr Kris Hartley, assistant professor at the Department of Asian and Policy Studies, has published a new edited volume with Routledge Press entitled “Governing Cities: Asia’s Urban Transformation”, with co-editors Prof Glen Kuecker (DePauw University, USA), Prof Michael Waschak (USA), Dr Jun Jie Woo (Singapore), and Dr Charles Chao Rong Phua (Singapore Management University).
The book is structured around three issues relevant to Asian cities: governance, liveability, and sustainability. The book interweaves practical cases with theories and empirical rigour to examine the processes and implications of Asian urbanization, lending insight into the complex challenges of urban policy. The 15 chapters are an eclectic compendium of studies involving over 20 co-authors that represent the rising voices of this diverse region. The volume aims to be meaningful to policymakers, students, and anybody interested in Asian urbanization.
