The Department of Asian and Policy Studies is committed to supporting students in pursuit of academic excellence and who demonstrate outstanding achievement through contributions to the community, leadership and progressive social change. Through the Department, scholarships are available for our self-financed programmes.

To support students of outstanding merit, the Department of Asian and Policy Studies has available the following scholarship programmes:

  1. Background

The Department of Asian and Policy Studies (APS) recognizes postgraduate and undergraduate students’ achievement in career development and contribution to public service.

Professor Anthony Cheung Scholarship rewards students who have outstanding development and achievement in the public policy sector from the 2020/21 academic year.

  1. Number of Scholarships

Maximum 4 students in each academic year will be offered the scholarship.

  1. Provision of the Scholarship
    • 1 quota will be provided for each programme under APS.

  • The scholarship is tenable for one academic year.
  • The successful candidates may hold concurrent scholarships/ awards granted by EdUHK, subject to fulfillment of the requirements as stipulated by the respective scholarship schemes but the total amount should not exceed annual tuition. Nevertheless, scholarship/ award to support outbound activities will not be counted towards the aforesaid ceiling of scholarship amount.

 

  1. Eligibility Criteria
    • Students registered with the MIRD and MPPM are eligible for the scholarship at HKD 70,000.
    • Students registered with the BSocSc(GCS), BSocScEd(GCS) and BPSM are eligible for the scholarship at amounted HKD 20,000. Priority will be given to penultimate year students.
  1. Selection Criteria
    • Final/ Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 out of a maximum of 4.0; and
    • Outstanding achievement and development in the public policy sector.
  1. Nomination and Selection Procedures
    • The APS will be responsible for the administration of the scholarship.
    • Students who have registered with the MIRD MPPM programmes, and have fulfilled the eligibility and selection criteria will be automatically nominated as the candidates of the scholarship.
    • Students from BSocScEd(GCS), BSocSc(GCS) or BSPM programmes will need to submit an application, outlining their achievement and future plans.
    • Internal review in paper form and selection by the Departmental Learning and Teaching Committee (DLTC). The nominated candidates will be submitted to the Departmental Management Committee (DMC) for endorsement.
    • The profile of the awardees will be sent to the Committee on Scholarships and Prizes for noting.
    • An email to the awardees and an announcement will be followed up in June and July.
  1. Conditions of Award
    • The scholarship will be terminated if the recipient ceases to be a student of the MIRD, MPPM, BSocScEd(GCS), BSocSc(GCS) or BSPM Programmes. The APS reserves the right to ask the recipient to return their scholarship money, either in part or in full.
    • The scholarship will be terminated if the recipient has committed any unethical and/or undesirable behavior and/or violated the regulations laid down by the University. The DMC reserves the right to make judgement on undesirable behavior.
    • If none of the candidates meet the eligibility and selection criteria in the academic year, the scholarship will not be offered.
    • Recipient of the scholarship is required to attend scholarship-related functions organized by the APS.
    • EdUHK reserves the right to deduct the scholarship from the student’s outstanding university fees, if any. The scholarship will be used to settle the university fees first and the remaining amount will be paid to the successful candidates.

Two students will be offered the scholarship. One student will come from the Greater China Region (including Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau) and the other will be a non-local student from outside of the Greater China Region. Nationality as shown in the online application system of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) will be the sole evidence of locality.

The scholarship covers 50% of the tuition fee of MIRD.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria
Students will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria and those with higher overall performance will be considered for the Scholarship based on the Programme Committee’s recommendations:

  1. Good academic achievements (overall GPA above 3.4) in the first semester of study;
  2. Preference will be given to students with demonstrable leadership role in student activities and community services with a track record of achievements; and
  3. Preference will be given to students with significant achievements in specific areas, such as sports, music, art and other extra-curricular activities.

Nomination and Selection Procedures

  1. The MIRD Programme Committee will invite both open application by students or nomination by a teaching member for selecting candidates in January. The deadline is 31 January;
  2. Internal review in paper form by the Programme Committee will be conducted in February after the students’ first semester grades have been confirmed;
  3. An email to the awardees and an announcement will be followed up in February; and
  4. Current students of the MIRD Programme may be invited to attend the award presentation ceremony.

One non-local student will be offered the scholarship. Nationality as shown in the online application system of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) will be the sole evidence of locality.

The scholarship covers 100% of the tuition fee of MIRD of said academic year and residential subsidy*.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

  1. Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and/or equivalent in a Degree not lower than Bachelor level;
  2. IELTS 6.5 or above or an equivalent score in a recognized test, should be obtained for applicants whose qualification is obtained from an institution in a non-English speaking system; and
  3. Financial needs, work experience, participation in extra-curricular activities and services will also be considered.

Nomination and Selection Procedures

  1. Full-time non-local students who have registered with the MIRD Programme and have fulfilled the eligibility and selection criteria will be automatically nominated as the candidates of the scholarship;
  2. Internal review in paper form by the Programme Committee will be conducted in June; and
  3. An email to the awardees and an announcement will be followed up in July.

 

* The University does not guarantee on-campus accommodation for non-local postgraduate students on self-funded programmes. The candidate may need to reside outside of the campus and the total amount of scholarship will remain unchanged.

  1. Background

The Master of Public Policy and Management (MPPM) at the Department of Asian and Policy Studies (APS) at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) is one of Hong Kong’s progressive programmes in social sciences.

An external donor, Mr Clement K. M. WOO, MH, is kind to provide Scholarship opportunities to encourage the youth to seek further studies in Master level and serve our community.

To appreciate Mr Clement K. M. WOO, MH’s commitment, MPPM will provide matching amount to the Scholarship.

 

  1. Number of Scholarships

Maximum one student in each academic year will be offered the scholarship.

  • If no student is eligible for the scholarship in 2021/22, quota will be shifted to 2022/23, i.e. 2 quotas will be offered in 2022/23.

  1. Eligibility Criteria
    • Local or Mainland students registered in MPPM;
    • Cumulative/ Final GPA of at least 3.0 out of a maximum of 4.0 and/or equivalent in a Degree not lower than Bachelor level;
    • Students are required to participate in the activities organized by the Home Affairs Department, Tai Po District Youth Programme Committee, and/or other community service projects as designed by Mr Clement K.M. WOO, MH;
    • Priority would be given to the local students. If no local student is nominated, second priority would be given to the Mainland students.

 

  1. Selection Criteria
    • Local or Mainland students registered in MPPM;
    • Cumulative/ Final GPA of at least 3.0 out of a maximum of 4.0 and/or equivalent in a Degree not lower than Bachelor level; and
    • Complete the activities and /or service projects required by Mr Clement K.M. WOO, MH.

 

  1. Nomination and Selection Procedures
    • The MPPM will be responsible for the administration of the scholarship.
    • Students will need to submit application, outlining their achievement and future plans.
    • Initial review and shortlisting will be conducted by the Programme Committee (PC) for MPPM. Mr Clement K.M. WOO, MH and PC for MPPM will endorse the nomination.
    • The profile of the awardees will be sent to the Committee on Scholarships and Prizes for noting.
    • An email to the awardees and an announcement will be followed up by end of semester I.

 

  1. Conditions of Award
    • The scholarship will be terminated if the recipient ceases to be a student of the MPPM or fails to complete the Programme within the normal study period, i.e. one year for full-time, two years for part-time mode of study. The MPPM reserves the right to ask the recipient to return their scholarship money, either in part or in full.
    • The scholarship will be terminated if the recipient has committed any unethical and/or undesirable behavior and/or violated the regulations laid down by the University. The PC for MPPM reserves the right to make judgement on undesirable behavior.
    • If none of the candidates meet the eligibility and selection criteria in the academic year, the scholarship will not be offered.
    • Recipient of the scholarship is required to attend scholarship-related functions organized by the MPPM.
    • EdUHK reserves the right to deduct the scholarship from the student’s outstanding university fees, if any. The scholarship will be used to settle the university fees first and the remaining amount will be paid to the successful candidates.

Three students will be offered the scholarship for each intake. One will be a local student, one student will come from the Greater China Region (including Mainland China, Taiwan, and Macau) and one will be a non-local student from outside of the Greater China Region. Nationality as shown in The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) online application system will be the sole evidence of locality.

The scholarship covers 50% of the tuition fee of MPPM.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

  1. GPA of 3.40 or above is required in the first semester of study;
  2. IELTS 6.5 or above or an equivalent score in a recognized test, should be obtained for applicants whose qualification is obtained from an institution in a non-English speaking system;
  3. Interview performance will be considered if more than one candidate has similar academic qualifications; and
  4. Participation in extra-curricular activities and services will be considered if more than one candidate has similar academic qualifications.

Nomination and Selection Procedures

  1. MPPM students who have fulfilled the eligibility and selection criteria will be automatically nominated as the recipients of the scholarship;
  2. If more than one candidate has the same academic qualifications, interviews will be arranged; and
  3. The scholarship award will normally be announced in February (Fall Intake) / October (Spring Intake).

The successful candidate is not allowed to hold concurrent scholarships granted by The EdUHK and/or Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (FLASS) but is allowed to hold the MPPM Residential Scholarship for Non-local Students.

Maximum 22 students for two intakes in each academic year will be offered the scholarship.

    • Other than the selection criteria stated in 5(a) & 5(b), candidates should also fulfill the following criteria:

  1. Background

The Master of Public Policy and Management (MPPM), hosted by the Department of Asian and Policy Studies (APS) is a self-funded Programme that was launched in 2013/14. The tuition fee of the Programme for 2020/21 is HKD 135,000.

The MPPM programme brings leading-edge learning of management issues including human resources, financial management and leadership while fostering students’ capabilities and skills for future placement in professional settings. To train students who have solid working experience and help them pursue managerial position, the MPPM provides financial support in the form of Scholarship.

 

  1. Number of Scholarship(s)

Maximum 5 students in each academic year (5 students from Spring Intake and Fall Intake) will be offered the scholarship.

 

  1. Provision of the Scholarship
    • The scholarship covers HKD 68,000.
    • The scholarship is tenable for one academic year.
    • The successful candidates may hold concurrent scholarships/ awards granted by EdUHK, subject to fulfillment of the requirements as stipulated by the respective scholarship schemes but the total amount should not exceed annual tuition. Nevertheless, scholarship/ award to support outbound activities will not be counted towards the aforesaid ceiling of scholarship amount.

 

  1. Eligibility Criteria

In-service civil servants who have successfully passed the trial bar and have registered for MPPM Programme (full-time or part-time mode). Candidates should provide documents showing their employment status and passage of trial bar.

 

  1. Selection Criteria
    • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 out of 4.00 or above is required and/or equivalent in a Degree not lower than Bachelor level.
    • IELTS 6.0 or above, or an equivalent score in a recognized test, should be obtained for applicants whose qualification is obtained from an institution in a non-English speaking system.

    • Candidates should submit Scholarship application along with their application to MPPM to the Programme Office via email (mppm@eduhk.hk).
    • If more than 5 candidates have met the criteria, interviews will be arranged.
    • The profile of the awardees will be sent to the Committee on Scholarships and Prizes for noting.
    • The scholarship award will normally be announced in June (Fall Intake) / November (Spring Intake).

  1. local and non-local students who have registered any one of the Master of International Relations and Development (MIRD) or Master of Public Policy and Management (MPPM) Programmes offered by APS.

  2. Excellent performance in admission interview; and
  3. GPA/CGPA 2.5 or above.

The Scholarship is for full-time students of the Bachelor of Social Science Education (Honours) (Greater China Studies) [BSocScEd(GCS)] / Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Greater China Studies [BSocSc(GCS)] Programmes. The Scholarship is awarded on the basis of outstanding academic merit, outstanding interview performance and active participation in social services. The Scholarship is to provide financial support to applicants who has successfully met the award’s requirements and has been admitted into the Programme.

The Scholarship will be tenable for up to 4 years for Year-1 Entry and up to 2 years for Year-3 Entry.

Eligibility

  1. Newly admitted Year 1 or Year 3 students who have registered with the full-time BSocScEd(GCS) or BSocSc(GCS) Programmes;
  2. Students are generally expected to have displayed outstanding academic achievement, excellent admission performance and active participation in social services;
  3. The scholarship is renewed on an annual basis subject to a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and recommendation by the Programme; and
  4. Successful candidates are recommended by the Programme. Candidates need not apply.

The Scholarship offers to full-time students of the Bachelor of Social Science Education (Honours) (Greater China Studies) [BSocScEd(GCS)] / Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Greater China Studies [BSocSc(GCS)] Programmes, who have outstanding academic performance of the year. The aim of the Scholarship is to recognize students’ effort in achieving good academic results. Candidates will be nominated by Board of Examiners of awarding Programme and students need not apply.

The Scholarship is awarded on the basis of outstanding academic merit, outstanding interview performance and active participation in social services. The scholarship is to provide financial support to applicants who has successfully met the award’s requirements and has been admitted into the Programme.

Eligibility

  1. Newly admitted Year 1 students who have registered with the full-time BSocSc(SEDS) Programme;
  2. Students are generally expected to have displayed outstanding academic achievement, excellent admission performance and active participation in social services;
  3. The scholarship is renewed on an annual basis subject to a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and recommendation by the Programme; and
  4. Successful candidates are recommended by the Department. Candidates need not apply.
