EdUHK Study: 70% of Hong Kongers Support Greater Income Redistribution
2017 June
According to a recent survey conducted by The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), it was found that approximately 90% of respondents believed that Hong Kong’s economy is controlled by large corporations and 70% believed that social inequality is due to the manipulation of an alliance of people in power. A majority of the respondents believe that the government should impose higher taxes on the wealthy and policy makers should facilitate wealth redistribution through a holistic review of the tax system. If this does not happen soon, the widening income gap between the rich and the poor will hamper social development.
Dr. Alfred Wu Muluan, Assistant Professor and Programme Leader of the Master of Social Science Education in Greater China Studies [MSocScEd(GCS)] with the Department of Asian and Policy Studies (APS) is the Principal Investigator of the survey.
