Departmental Research Seminar Series – Dr. Nicolai Petrovsky and Dr. Myoung Jin Lee Visits EdUHK

2017 May

The Departmental Research Seminar Series is a regular forum series organised by the Department of Asian and Policy Studies (APS) where academic and public sector practitioners have a dialogue with the University community and public. The 12 May 2017 seminar saw Dr. Nicolai Petrovsky shared his research entitled Politicized Bureaucracy in a Merit-based System: Permanent Secretaries’ Tenure in the United Kingdom, where from 1976 to 2016, the tenure of the UK’s most senior civil servants was analyzed. The preliminary data showed that the risk of tenure ending was higher in the year following a new party of government.

In Dr. Myoung Jin Lee’s research entitled Experiments in Public Management and Policy and Issues about Replicating Experiments, she indicated that experimental methods were rising up in many social disciplines more over the traditional experimental areas such as natural science or experimental psychology. She introduced the experimental methods, experimental examples in Public Management and Policy areas and some replication projects.

Dr. Nicolai Petrovsky is an Associate Professor with the Martin School of Public Policy and Administration at the University of Kentucky.

Dr. Myoung Jin Lee is a Research Fellow with the Laboratory for Public Management and Policy (LaMP), Department of Public Policy at the City University of Hong Kong.
