Departmental Research Seminar Series – Dr. Isabella Ng Fung-sheung and Dr. Alex He Jingwei present their current research at EdUHK

The Departmental Research Seminar Series is a regular forum series organised by the Department of Asian and Policy Studies (APS) where academic and public sector practitioners have a dialogue with the University community and public. The 19 September 2017 seminar saw Dr. Isabella Ng Fung-sheung shared her research entitled Framing the Issue of Asylum Seekers and Refugees for Tougher Refugee Policy – A Study of the Media’s Portrayal in Post-colonial Hong Kong, where the study examines how print media frame the issue of asylum seekers and refugees and its effect on attempts to implement tougher policies in Hong Kong by policy makers.

In Dr. Alex He Jingwei’s research entitled Why do Mainland Chinese Support Social Welfare? An Empirical Study in Zhuhai, Guangdong, he examines Chinese people’s willingness to pay taxes and insurance contributions and their expectation of government responsibility in providing a suitable welfare system.

Dr. Isabella Ng Fung-sheung is an Assistant Professor and Associate Head of Department (Teaching and Learning) with the Department of Asian and Policy Studies at the Education University of Hong Kong.

Dr. Alex He Jingwei is an Associate Professor and Associate Head of Department (Research and Development) with the Department of Asian and Policy Studies at the Education University of Hong Kong.
