Call for Papers – The Fifth AP-PPN Annual Conference

Following the successful conferences in Hong Kong (2016, 2019), Chiang Mai (2017), and Beijing (2018), the Asia-Pacific Public Policy Network (AP-PPN) will hold its 5th Annual Conference for the first time in Australia at The University of Western Australia (UWA) on 13–14 February 2020, hosted by the Political Science and International Relations discipline, School of Social Sciences.

The conference theme encourages papers that examine the changing dynamics of research, evidence and public policy. More than ever, policy makers, researchers and practitioners are being asked to defend the evidence they use and produce, tailor evidence to specific policy purposes, justify why the voices of some experts are given preference over others and, develop new mechanisms to inform towards a ‘what works’ approach to policy making, the increased use of evidence hierarchies, and new data infrastructures to inform decision making, all necessitate detailed, informed and critical examination by policy scholars. These trends require a critical awareness of the networks of influence that determine what counts as relevant policy knowledge. The conference will provide an opportunity for researchers across the Asia-Pacific to engage in reflection on implications for public policy research and practice.

Proposals for both individual papers and thematic panels on all topics relevant to public policy are invited. Proposals for papers must include an abstract (250-word maximum), paper title and author’s name, institution and email address. Please email your proposals to asiapacificppn@gmail.com before 30 September 2019. Deadline for completed papers is 31 January 2020.
