The Asia-Pacific Observatory on Health Systems and Policies (APO) of the World Health Organization (WHO) announced the selection result of research consortium earlier this year. A multinational consortium comprised of leading scholars from India, Mainland China and Hong Kong was selected, out of some 20 applications from the Asia-Pacific Region. Dr He Jingwei Alex, Associate Professor of the Department of Asian and Policy Studies (APS) representing the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) is a core member of the consortium. In the next three years, he will be working with collaborators from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Fudan University, and Shanghai Health Development Research Center on a number of strategic health policy issues in the Asia-Pacific Region, such as the integration of health services for the elderly and long-term care financing. This is the first time that the APO funds a research consortium comprised not by clinicians. The consortium impressed the APO with their multidisciplinary orientation, multinational focus, and strong track record.

As part of the WHO regional offices, the APO is a collaborative partnership of interested governments, international agencies, foundations, and researchers that promotes evidence-informed health system policy regionally and in all countries in the Asia Pacific region.
