Global Network


The Centre is forming relationships with respected organizations throughout the world where synergies can assist in collaborative research and capacity development in the region. Our development of formal partnerships is both strategic, opportunistic and evolving. Our current partnerships with research centres outside the region include:

Australia
  • Asia Education Foundation: AEF enables educators to develop Asia literate young Australians. They support teachers, principals, education leaders and school communities to implement the Australian Curriculum cross-curriculum priority of Asia and Australia's engagement with Asia.
  • Australian Council for Educational Research: The Australian Council for Educational Research acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands on which our offices are located. We pay our respects to Elders past and present and acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who continue to contribute to our research and development to improve Indigenous learning. ACER's mission is to create and promote research-based knowledge, products and services that can be used to improve learning across the life span.
  • Australian Council of Educational Leadership: ACEL is a not-for-profit company and a 21st Century learning organisation that is continuously improving its practices to harness national and global opportunities. ACEL actively supports the development of leadership capabilities across Australia through its national and Branch initiated professional learning activities, international conferences, publications, online programs, and other partnership initiatives in leadership development. Access to these leadership-focused opportunities is available for classroom to system leaders.
  • AISSA: The Association of Independent Schools of South Australia (AISSA) is recognised as the peak body for the Independent school sector in South Australia. The Association provides a forum for debate on significant policy issues and plays a significant leadership role in providing advice and information, representing individual schools and the sector, and shaping change across the sector.
  • Griffith University: Griffith University has come to be regarded as one of Australia's most innovative tertiary institutions and one of the most influential universities in the Asia-Pacific region. Griffith is Australia’s ninth largest higher education provider.
  • Learning First: Learning First is committed to systemic change in school education that produces sustainable improvements in student learning. We provide a range of services to all parts of school education systems.
  • New South Wales Institute of Senior Educational Administrators: The ISEA is an industrial organisation constituted, to represent Chief Education Officers within the Department of Education and Training . The improvement and protection of industrial interests of its members is central to the work of the ISEA. The ISEA plays a major role in developing and promoting the professional interests of its members, An important feature of the ISEA is the collegiality and networking opportunities it affords and the role it plays in providing considered advice to the senior administration of the NSW Department of Education and Training.
  • Queensland Education Leadership Institute: Established in 2010, the Queensland Education Leadership Institute (QELi) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to developing the leadership capabilities of educators. Jointly owned by the Queensland Department of Education and Training, Independent Schools Queensland and the Queensland Catholic Education Commission, the QELi delivers leadership development solutions and support to educators within Queensland, across Australia and internationally.

  • The University of Melbourne: The University of Melbourne is a public-spirited institution that makes distinctive contributions to society in research, teaching and knowledge transfer.  The University is ranked among the top universities in Australia and the world. Among Australian universities, it claims a leading position in various academic areas including Education.
  • University of Canberra, Faculty of Education, Science, Technology and Mathematics: It provides courses that are designed to meet the rapidly changing demands of the job market. Strong ties and ongoing consultation with government, industry and the community ensures that our courses reflect the needs of employers and that our graduates are equipped with the skills they need to be in high demand. The Education programme area offers new and redeveloped courses in line with national requirements for teacher registration. .

Canada

  • International School Leadership:  International School Leadership Ltd. (ISL) is a subsidiary of the Ontario Principals’ Council devoted to the provision of exemplary professional development for teachers, principals, school heads and system leaders around the world. ISL programs are grounded in current research from around the globe, the Ontario (Canada) experience in striving for excellence, and the Ontario Principals’ Council history of delivering exemplary professional development. The ISL and the APCLC has entered Memorandum of Understanding in 2015 for academic collaboration to strengthen mutual understanding, to foster friendly cooperation, and to promote academic collaboration and exchange.

  • Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, Toronto:  OISE has been home to arguably the most influential programme of research conducted in educational leadership over the past 20 years. Under the direction of APCLC Senior Research Fellow, Professor Ken Leithwood, this programme of empirical of research has had enormous effects on theory, research, policy and practice. OISE is also home to their Dean Emeritus, Professor Michael Fullan who is a member of our Advisory Board.
  • Nipissing University:  Nipissing is a primarily undergraduate university with a reputation for excellence in teacher education, arts, science and professional programs. Students will find themselves in a high quality academic environment that is student-focused and based on personal teaching practices, innovative approaches to learning, and a growing research culture.

  • The University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Education:  UBC’s Faculty of Education prepares professionals for practice in a wide range of education-related fields, from preschool through adulthood. For over 50 years, the Faculty of Education has served the international education community through leadership in research, service, and advocacy. In British Columbia, more than 45% of the province’s elementary teachers, the majority of secondary teachers, and a significant proportion of BC’s special needs and First Nations teachers, counsellors, school administrators, school psychologists, and vocational rehabilitation counsellors, are prepared by the UBC Faculty of Education for their important roles.

Chile

  • Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile:  The Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile was founded on June 21, 1888 by Monsignor Mariano Casanova, Archbishop of Santiago. The University has always aimed to achieve a solid education, founded in the sciences, arts, humanities and Catholic morals. Thus, the University aims for its students to be not only technically and scientifically prepared, but also to be open to different human realities and to the social and personal responsibilities involved in the complete development of a society.

Finland

  • University of Jyväskylä:  The University of Jyväskylä is a nationally and internationally significant research university and an expert on education that focuses on human and natural sciences. The University is Finland's leading expert in teacher education and adult education, as well as the major exporter of education.

Israel

  • Hebrew University of Jerusalem:  The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, founded in 1918 and opened officially in 1925, is Israel’s premier university as well as its leading research institution. The Hebrew University is ranked internationally among the 100 leading universities in the world and first among Israeli universities.

Netherlands

  • University of Twente: The University of Twente is a young, entrepreneurial research university with proven excellence in the field of new technologies and their impact on society and humanity. The university develops technologies that shape the future: ICT, biotechnology, and nanotechnology. The University of Twente is unique in its capacity to transcend the boundaries between disciplines. The University of Twente does not approach new technologies in isolation, but in relation to behavioural, social, and management sciences, combining high tech with a human touch.

New Zealand

  • The University of Wellington: The University of Wellington has developed a tradition of fostering strong international links in teaching and research and high quality programmes of national and international significance. The University of Wellington is committed to providing students with opportunities to acquire, understand and apply disciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge, as well as the opportunity to gain a global perspective.
  • University of Auckland: Senior Research Fellow, Professor Vivianne Robinson is recognized as a leading scholar focusing on school leadership, specifically in the area of instructional leadership. We expect active collaboration in this area given the similar area of expertise of the Centre's core staff.

Norway

  • BI Norwegian Business School: BI Norwegian Business School is a self-owned, not-for-profit foundation whose sole focus is education and research.BI Norwegian Business School boasts the country’s leading faculty in the school’s spear-head  areas of economics, management, strategy, marketing and finance.
  • University of Bergen: The University of Bergen is founded in 1946, academic activity had taken place at Bergen Museum as far back as 1825. The university today serves more than 14,500 students, and is one of eight universities in Norway.

South Africa

  • University of Johannesburg’s Faculty of Education: The Faculty of Education of University of Johannesburg consists of a community of scholars who are enthusiastically working towards serving and building education in the greater Johannesburg area and in this country through teaching, research and community engagement.

Sweden

  • Umeå University: Umeå University was founded in 1965 and is Sweden's fifth oldest university. They have a strong international and multicultural presence with students, teachers and researchers from all over the world. As one of the leading comprehensive universities in the nation, they are alive with enthusiasm, creativity and fresh ideas.

UK

  • Cambridge University: Among the top institutions in the UK focusing on school leadership, our partnership focuses primarily on research on distributed school leadership. Key members of the Cambridge faculty working with the Centre include Professor Peter Gronn, Professor John MacBeath, and Professor Maurice Gaulton.
  • Institute of Education, University of London: IOE has been one of the most active European universities seeking to internationalize in education. Collaboration with IOE is focused on both research and graduate degree programs. Senior Research Fellow, Professor Alma Harris is working closely with the Centre on a project that seeks to examine distributed school leadership from a socio-cultural perspective.
  • National College for Teaching and Leadership: The National College works to develop and support great leaders of schools, early years settings and children’s services so they can make a positive difference to children’s lives.
  • University of Glasgow: The School of Education, within the College of Social Sciences, has deep roots within the educational traditions of the University of Glasgow and the surrounding environment of Scottish Higher Education. These roots include the heritage of Scottish teacher education, of adult and lifelong learning and of renowned centres for research into educational policy and practice such as the Scottish Centre for Research in Education (SCRE).
  • University of Leicester: The University of Leicester is a leading UK University committed to international excellence through the creation of world changing research and high quality, inspirational teaching. Leicester is the most socially inclusive of Britain's top-20 leading universities.
  • University of Nottingham: The University of Nottingham is a public research university based in Nottingham, England, the United Kingdom. It was founded as University College Nottingham in 1881 and granted a Royal Charter in 1948. The university was named Times Higher Education "University of the Year" in 2006, Times Higher Education "Entrepreneurial University of the Year" in 2008, and finished runner up in the 2010 Sunday Times "University of the Year". Nottingham has consistently ranked amongst Britain's top 10 leading universities in the various national and international rankings published over the last 15 years, and is described by the Fulbright Commission as "one of the UK's oldest, largest, and most prestigious universities".
  • University of Oxford: Oxford is one of the leading universities in the world and the oldest university in the English-speaking world and lays claim to nine centuries of continuous existence. Oxford is a collegiate university, with 39 self-governing colleges related to the University in a type of federal system. Oxford is one of Europe's most innovative and entrepreneurial universities. Drawing on an 800-year tradition of discovery and invention, modern Oxford leads the way in creating jobs, wealth, skills and innovation for the 21st century.

USA

  • ASCD: The ASCD (formerly Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development) is a membership-based nonprofit organization founded in 1943. It has more than 175,000 members from over 100 countries, including superintendents, principals, teachers, professors of education, and other educators. While ASCD was initially founded with a focus on curriculum and supervision, the association now provides its members with professional development, educational leadership, and capacity building. Its mission is to develop programs, products, and services essential to the way educators learn, teach, and lead.
  • Northwestern University:Northwestern University combines innovative teaching and pioneering research in a highly collaborative environment. It provides students and faculty exceptional opportunities for intellectual, personal and professional growth.
  • Peabody College, Vanderbilt University:Ranked as the number one College of Education in the USA and number one in educational leadership, this represents one of our Centre's Core Partnerships. A range of faculty members are affiliated with the Centre including Senior Research Fellows Professor Joseph F. Murphy and Professor Ellen Goldring, and Research Fellow Assistant Professor Xiu Chen Cravens. We are currently working on development of several operational projects including:

    • Collaborative research on the evaluation of school leadership development.
    • Collaboration in a Master degree program on leadership and change from an international perspective.
  • Pennsylvania State University: The Pennsylvania State University teach students to be leaders with a global perspective. It conducts research to improve lives. The Pennsylvania State University is a research university with very high research activity. Over 10,000 students are enrolled in the university's graduate school (including the law and medical schools), and over 70,000 degrees have been awarded since the school was founded in 1922.
  • University of Central Florida: The University of Central Florida is one of the most dynamic universities in the USA. Offering 212 degree programmes, it has become an academic and research leader in numerous fields, including education. Researchers at the University of Central Florida attract more than $100 million annually. Research contracts and grants come from federal, state and industry partners.
  • University of Hawaii at Manoa: The University of Hawaii at Manoa was founded in 1907, the University of Hawaii at Manoa is the flagship campus of the University of Hawaii System. A destination of choice, students and faculty come from across the nation and the world to take advantage of UH Manoa's unique research opportunities, diverse community, nationally-ranked Division I athletics program, and beautiful landscape.
  • University of Minnesota: The University of Minnesota is among the largest public research universities in the USA, offering undergraduate, graduate, and professional students a multitude of opportunities for study and research.
  • University of Texas at San Antonio: The University of Texas at San Antonio is a state research university in San Antonio, Texas, United States. It is the largest university in San Antonio and the eighth-largest in the state of Texas. It was selected by Times Higher Education as one of the best universities in the world under 50 years old.

International Organizations

  • Academy for International School Heads: The Academy for International School Heads (AISH) is a non-profit, member-based professional organization dedicated to support, professional development, advocacy, and making a significant contribution to the future of leading and learning. It was founded in 1999 by 15 organizations and individuals.


  • Commonwealth Council for Educational Administration and Management (CCEAM): The CCEAM is an organisation dedicated to fostering cooperative and collaborative exchanges internationally amongst education leadership, administration and management professionals. The CCEAM is affiliated to the CCfE (the Commonwealth Consortium for Education), which provides a forum through which the concerns of the CCEAM and its affiliated members can make representations and participate in Commonwealth activities.


  • Council of International Schools (CIS): The CIS is a membership community committed to high quality international education. The CIS is a global non-profit membership organization. It  provides services to primary and secondary schools, higher education institutions and individuals that share these ideals: (i) a desire to provide students with the knowledge, skills and abilities to pursue their lives as global citizens; and (ii) a commitment to high quality international education.

  • East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS): The East Asia Regional Council of Schools is an organization of 136 member schools in East Asia. These schools have a total of more than 96,306 pre-K to 12th grade students. EARCOS also has 154 associate members— textbook and software publishers and distributors,universities,financial planners, architectural firms,insurance companies, youth organizations, etc— and over 25 individual members. Membership in EARCOS is open to elementary and secondary schools in East Asia which offer an educational program using English as the primary language of instruction, and to other organizations, institutions, and individuals interested in the objectives and purposes of the Council.

  • International Baccalaureate: The International Baccalaureate® (IB) is a non-profit educational foundation, motivated by its mission, focused on the student.The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
