Working Towards ‘Better English and Quality Education for All’ in Knowledge Transfer Forum

A half-day forum, titled as ‘Towards Better English Language Teaching: Success Strategies for Partnership in Educational Outsourcing & Teaching English in a Multilingual Context’, was held on May 25, 2019 in EdUHK, concerning the wider issues of equity and collaboration with third-parties in providing basic education, using English language teaching as a case. The forum has provided an arena for 75 School leaders, teachers, scholars and educational service providers to begin collective efforts to address relevant issues.

The event was opened by Prof. Allan Walker's discussion of educational partnership between universities and the society, followed by Dr. Darren Bryant's introduction of the department's initiatives to serve the community with research relevant to the needs of Hong Kong.

Several speakers were invited from different sectors in the educational system to share their insights, including Prof. Bob Adamson and Dr. Choi Tae Hee from EdUHK, school leaders from local secondary schools, Principal Lawrence Law and Principal Stephen Li (along with his two colleagues), and Mr. Clement Chung who is in charge of curriculum development in Wiseman Education. Their shared expertise and practical experiences have initiated active discussion among the participants.

We would like to take this chance to thanks for all the speakers and participants who have enabled this inter-sector collaborative event, and hope this forum will lead to meaningful partnership in providing quality education for all. The forum was organized by Dr. Choi Tae Hee and Prof. Chiu Chi Shing from the Department of Education Policy and Leadership and the Education Policy Research Hub, and sponsored by The Joseph Lau Luen Hung Charitable Trust Asia Pacific Centre for Leadership and Change.
