Programme Aims

The programme aims at providing course participants with contemporary knowledge and skills to cater for the diverse learning needs of young children. Participants will be able to identify the effects of various factors on individual differences and characteristics of young children with diverse needs. They learn how to design and implement appropriate curriculum in order to accommodate the needs of all young children and to provide a fair and supportive environment in diverse preschool settings. In addition, participants will adopt a wide range of learning and teaching strategies and employ varied and appropriate assessment techniques to evaluate and monitor the progress of young children with diverse needs. They will also know how to collaborate with colleagues, parents, and other professionals, and utilise the resources of various services in the community to meet the diverse needs of young children.



Programme Structure

The programme consists of one 3-credit-point course with a total of 39 contact hours.

Catering for Diverse Needs of Young Children (3 credit points)

The course aims at empowering early childhood practitioners to become effective, efficient and creative personnel for inclusive education in early childhood settings. It provides course participants with contemporary knowledge and skills to cater for the diverse learning needs of young children. Participants will be able to identify the effects of various factors on individual differences and characteristics of young children with diverse needs. They learn how to design and implement appropriate curriculum in order to accommodate the needs of all young children and to provide a fair and supportive environment in diverse preschool settings. Medium of Instruction

The medium of instruction is Chinese (Cantonese).

The 5-full day programme is tentatively offered once a year as follow:

Entrance Requirements

To be eligible for admission, applicants should be:

  • in-service teachers from pre-primary settings; and
  • recommended by school principals.


Award

To be awarded a Certificate of Completion, participants must obtain a pass in all assessment tasks required and successfully fulfill the attendance and/or assessment requirements as stipulated by the programme.

Participants who complete our PDPs are eligible to apply for credit transfer if they enroll in our postgraduate programmes. Their applications will be considered on an individual basis.
