Programme Aims

The programme aims to introduce to principals and teachers some theories of lesson analysis and their application in lesson observation and reviewing in order to bridge the gap between the theories promoted by educational reform (e.g. catering for individual differences, higher order thinking, etc.) and teachers' classroom practice. It also aims to develop schools into a learning community in that the principals, deputy principals/panel heads and teachers are able to develop the ability to analyse lessons and facilitate discussion for the improvement of pupils' learning.

Programme Structure

The programme comprises a series of lectures, lesson observation and workshops that set the theoretical framework for cultivating a learning community through conducting lesson observation and evaluation. Schools should assign a team of personnel at different levels (including principals, deputy principals / senior teachers and teachers from the same subject area) to attend the programme. The team of personnel attends the programme at different period of time within the 5 weeks, i.e. 1st week for principals* (3 credit point) and 1st – 5th week for deputy principals/panel heads and teachers (6 credit points). At the completion of the programme, each team will work out a lesson observation activity on their selected subject to facilitate changes in teaching and learning using on a whole school approach.

* If principals have previously completed BWP063, deputy principals or panel heads may substitute the principals; starting from 2018-19, should the school principal has previously completed BWP063 within 5 years, he/she can either choose to apply for exemption or to nominate the deputy principal/panel head to study the programme on his/her behalf.
