For Non-local Applicants
We welcome applications from local and non-local applicants. Starting from the 2019/20 intake cohort, a new definition of Non-local Students (NLS) will be adopted in accordance with the HKSAR Government policy.
If you hold one of the following documents issued by the Immigration Department of the HKSAR, you are regarded as a non-local student for the purpose of admission to our programmes.
- student visa / entry permit; or
- visa / entry permit under the Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG); or
- dependant visa / entry permit (You were 18 years old or above when you were issued with such visa / entry permit by the Immigration Department of the HKSAR.)
Definition of local and non-local applicants is as listed here. To make direct enquiries on the definition of non-local students, please contact the Education Bureau (EDB) [Email: edbinfo@edb.gov.hk / Fax: (852) 2804 6499].
When you submit an application, you are required to indicate clearly which document you are holding for study. You may be asked to provide a copy of your passport/visa to support your application during the admission process. If the documents produced do not correspond to your local / non-local status entered in the application form, any offers made to you may be revoked and all fees paid will not be refunded. It is always your responsibility to inform the University about the change of your condition of stay by providing relevant documentary proof to admission@eduhk.hk as soon as possible.
For undergraduate programmes, local and non-local applicants are considered under different admission schemes. Following the change of your status, your application will be considered with other eligible applicants on a competitive basis under the appropriate admission scheme.
Non-local applicants are advised to apply as early as possible as it often takes considerable time (normally 6 to 8 weeks) for the Immigration Department of the HKSAR to process your visa applications. For details, please consult the Immigration Department of the HKSAR directly (www.immd.gov.hk/eng/services/index.html).
Application fee:
Full-time Undergraduate Programmes: | HK$300 for a maximum of two programme choices within an admission term (the fee will be charged for your 1st preference. The system will automatically charge “$0” for the 2nd choice of programme). |
Other Programmes: | HK$300 for each programme choice |
The fee once paid is non-refundable and non-transferable unless the programme in question is cancelled by the University. You may refer to the "Other Payment Methods" for alternative ways of paying your application fee.
Upon successful submission of application, you will receive an application acknowledgement by email which contains an Application Number. Please quote your Application Number in all communications with the University.
Please do not send any original certificates to the University in any circumstances as the University will not be responsible for any documents mislaid. Applicants who have attended international institutions whose transcripts are in a language other than Chinese or English must submit those transcripts with certified English translations.
Submitted documents will not be returned. All supporting documents of unsuccessful applications will be destroyed at the end of the admission exercise.
Mainland non-JEE applicants who are seeking for admission to our Full-time undergraduate programmes will be considered on a competitive basis with students attending the current year of JEE. Shortlisted Mainland applicants will therefore be invited to attend the on-site admission interview to be held in Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai in late June / early July in the relevant admission year.
Successful applicants will receive individual notifications by email. Applicants are strongly advised to check their personal email frequently. No individual notifications will be sent to unsuccessful or waitlisted applicants. It is therefore important that the email address you provided is correct and up-to-date. Please login your online application account to update your email address and contact phone number when changes occur.
- indicate your acceptance of offer via the online application system (www.eduhk.hk/acadprog/OnlineAccept.html) or a reply proforma (if applicable);
- upload a payment proof of the admission acceptance fee;
- upload a copy of your mainland ID / passport;
- return a signed student visa application form and supporting documents (if applicable). Please return the student visa application form by courier because the Immigration Department of the HKSAR requires the ORIGINAL; and
- a completed application form for on-campus accommodation (if applicable).
You are also required to (i) submit the original or certified transcript / academic document to us; or (ii) apply for official transcript, language test report, and other supporting documents to be sent directly to the University from the issuing universities / authorities by the deadline stipulated in the offer letter.
If you have received more than one admission offer from the University, you can choose to enrol on one programme only.
When the student visa is ready, GAO will send the student visa to the individual applicant directly. Please note that once the visa application is being processed by GAO, the visa processing fee cannot be refunded.
