Dr. Kevin Yuen and audiologists Charin Mak & Carol Cheung (SRAs), post-doctoral fellow Patrick Chu, and M.Phil. student Xin-yue Qiu visited two schools for children with severe physical and mental disabilities - Caritas Lok Kan School and Caritas Jockey Club Lok Yan School in July and October 2017, respectively. By conducting eye-tracking and hearing assessments, they explored different methods to understand the cognitive functioning levels and the hearing abilities of the children. They hope to kick off some research projects in the near future which aim for unlocking the learning potentials of children with severe disabilities. Each child with special educational needs is unique and has untapped potentials waiting to be discovered.
