Over 700 staff members, students, alumni and friends of The Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd) took part in a Walkathon cum Alumni Homecoming Day today (30 March) in celebration of the Institute’s 20th anniversary.

Forming more than 30 teams, the walkers represented different sectors of the extended HKIEd community, which includes alumni bodies of the former Colleges of Education, HKIEd Alumni Association, the Institute’s student halls, academic and administrative departments, HKIEd Students' Union, teams that formed by mainland and international students, HKIEd Jockey Club Primary School and HKIEd HSBC Early Childhood Learning Centre.

Officiating at the opening ceremony at Tai Po Waterfront Park were Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung, HKIEd President, Mr Kevin Yeung Yun-hung, Under Secretary for Education, and Mr Bassanio So Chek-leung, District Officer of the Tai Po District Office.

The one-hour walkathon ended at HKIEd’s Tai Po campus, where a fun-filled carnival for alumni was held. Among many other highlights, the carnival featured a variety of displays, activities and performances, including a fund-raising Cantonese opera show staged by the Grantham College of Education Past Students’ Association.
